Some riders consider a stronger exhaust note part of the pleasure and character of owning a motorcycle. Others—including plenty who enjoy a good-sounding engine—believe deliberately excessive noise damages our reputation and gives campaigners another reason to demand restrictions.

Motorcycle theft is hardly new, but the way some stolen bikes are now displayed online has changed the character of the crime. Videos can show motorcycles and electric off-road bikes being ridden recklessly through traffic, displayed like trophies or used to provoke police pursuits.

Since then it's had another engine. The gearbox has been rebuilt. The forks have been replaced. It's wearing different wheels. The fuel tank rusted through years ago. The exhaust certainly isn't original and, following an unfortunate encounter with corrosion, eventually even the frame was replaced.

"When a motorcycle reaches the age at which it can qualify for Historic Vehicle taxation, does the DVLA automatically change its status – or does the owner have to do something?"

If there's one subject guaranteed to divide opinion on Britain's roads, it's motorcycle filtering. Most bikers see it as one of the genuine advantages of riding. Many motorists still believe it's illegal. Others become frustrated when a bike works its way through stationary traffic while they're stuck in a queue.
